the green island of the North Aegean,  lies about 12 nautical miles south of Kavala and is not without reason referred to as the green island. Especially on the southern side, pine forests extend right down to the sea, a rare sight in the Aegean. Added to this are crystal-clear, turquoise waters and high mountains.  
Until a few years ago, Thassos was considered an insider tip for boating enthusiasts. In the summer months the island has since become very popular; nevertheless, it has retained much of its authenticity and tranquility. The villages are small, easy to get around, and exude genuine Greek charm, far from large hotel complexes.  
For sailors, Thassos offers very good ports of call. Around the island there are three safe harbors:

•     Limenas, the main town and most important harbor of the island  
•     Limenaria in the south  
•     Kallirachi on the west coast

In addition, there areseveral sheltered bays that are ideal for anchoring—even overnight. Peaceful evenings at anchor, crystal-clear water, and impressive nature make Thassos an attractive destination for sailors seeking relaxation and authentic Greece.

Limenas (Thassos Town)

Limenas, the main town of Thassos, is a lively and diverse harbor town. Around the harbor you’ll find numerous bars, taverns, and souvenir shops, along with archaeological excavations and an ancient theater—remarkably diverse for a place of this size. There really is something here for every taste.

The clean sandy beaches in and around Limenas are popular and therefore less suitable for those seeking peace and quiet who prefer secluded coves. In return, the town offers short distances: the harbor, beaches, restaurants, and sights are all easily reachable on foot, which makes Limenas particularly convenient for sailors.
The harbor of Limenas offers secure berths for recreational boats and yachts. Mooring is usually done alongside or bow-to the pier. The harbor is well protected and centrally located in town. Taverns, shops, and sights are within walking distance. In high season it can get lively and crowded.
